They Were Only Freshmen - Our Radar: Fall 2018 TV Shows

Prutha S. Patel (@PSPatel)

From September to November, here are just SOME of the freshmen shows on our radar this Fall 2018 television season. Did we miss one on your radar? Let us know in the comments below!

OUAT (ABC) alum Josh Dallas returns to television, this time on a new network and alongside Valor’s (The CW)’s Melissa Roxburgh. Hardcore Lost meets Fringe vibes with this one and the first 9 minutes NBC released were intriguing.

Cast: Melissa Roxburgh, Josh Dallas, Athena Karkanis, J.R. Ramirez, Parveen Kaur, Luna Blaise

Sure to be a tear-jerker, ABC’s A Million Little Things centers around a group of friends who despite their individual struggles, band together in the wake of one friend’s suicide. What led to that decision? As the title of the show perhaps notes, there’s also more than meets the eye for the friend who the others viewed as seemingly having everything going for him. Could this be ABC’s This Is Us competitor in the sense that it’s going to pull our heartstrings for seasons to come? Only time will tell, in the meantime, will watch.

Cast: David Giuntoli, Ron Livingston, Romany Malco, Allison Miller, Christina Moses, Christina Ochoa, James Roday, Grace Park, Stéphanie Szostak, Lizzy Greene, Tristan Byon

10/5 - INTO THE DARK (Hulu)

A slightly unique release pattern in comparison to the general network schedule, Hulu’s new horror anthology, Into The Dark, will feature 12 episodes focused on key holidays with an episode releasing each month, starting this October. A bit like Black Mirror in that each episode will feature different cast members, chances are that this one’s is likely to offer up something for everyone in the coming episodes!

Cast: “The Body” - Tom Bateman, Rebecca Rittenhouse, Aurora Perrineau, David Hull, Ray Santiago

10/10 - ALL-AMERICAN (The CW)

A star football player’s (inspired by the life of linebacker Spencer Paysinger) struggles as he transfers from one school to the other, with vastly different environments, The CW’s upcoming All-American, created and EP-ed by April Blair, honestly couldn’t be more interesting to yours truly. From the trailer, this could potentially be right up any FNL fan’s alley.

Cast: Daniel Ezra, Taye Diggs, Samantha Logan, Bre-Z, Greta Onieogou, Monet Mazur, Michael Evans, Cody Christian, Karimah Westbrook, Jalyn Hall

10/12 - HAUNTING OF HILL HOUSE (Netflix)

Although there had been some hope in seeing Stranger Things release in October (can you blame us? It has always felt like such a Halloween-time show!), Haunting of Hill House (not be mistaken for House on Haunting Hill) is perhaps here to fill the void! Adapting the 1959 book by Shirley Jackson, is a well-regarded horror filmmaker, Mike Flanagan. Can’t wait to see what mysterious spookiness is afoot in that creepy ol’ house there!

Cast: Michiel Huisman, Carla Gugino, Henry Thomas, Elizabeth Reaser, Kate Siegel, Timothy Hutton, Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Lulu Wilson, Victoria Pedretti, Mckenna Grace, Violet McGraw, Paxton Singleton, Julian Hillard

10/12 - LIGHT AS A FEATHER (Hulu)

It’s interesting to think of Hulu’s Light As A Feather as what it is, a ten episode season, rather than a movie. This is simply because the basic setup...that of 5 teen girls playing what was supposed to be a harmless game of “Light As A Feather (Stiff as a Board)” which then results in their (unintentional) unleashing of supernatural elements into the real world...comes off a bit like a teen horror movie rather than a show. All in all however, I do appreciate the extra 8 hours of content! There’s more to binge! Yay!

Cast: Liana Liberato, Haley Ramm, Ajiona Alexus, Brianne Tju, Peyton List, Dylan Sprayberry, Jordan Rodrigues, Brent Rivera, Dorian Brown Pham

I’ve been eagerly looking forward to this new show from the producers of Riverdale ever since it got announced. Having grown up with a far far lighter fare in the Archie Comics and Sabrina the Teenage Witch TV show of the ‘90s, it was (slightly) surprising to find myself such an avid fan of Riverdale. It’s easily at the top of my guilty pleasures list and I anticipate Chilling Adventures of Sabrina will be right up there on that very same list! CAOS arrives on Netflix this October but the real question is: Are we even ready??

Cast: Kiernan Shipka, Jaz Sinclair, Michelle Gomez, Chance Perdomo, Lucy Davis, Miranda Otto, Richard Coyle, Ross Lynch, Tati Gabrielle

10/31 - TELL ME A STORY (CBS All Access)

Tell Me A Story, developed by Kevin Williamson (Scream, I Know What You Did Last Summer, Dawson’s Creek), will most likely be the reason I finally get myself going on CBS All Access. A darker reimagining of some tales as old as time? Ok, ok, sold. The cast, which includes the likes of Billy Magnussen, Kim Cattrell, Danielle Campbell, Paul Wesley, James Wolk and Dania Ramirez, is icing. ICING I SAY.

Cast: Billy Magnussen, Kim Cattrall, Danielle Campbell, Paul Wesley, James Wolk, Dania Ramirez, Sam Jaeger, Davi Santos, Zabryna Guevara, Dorian Missick

11/2 - HOMECOMING (Amazon Prime)

Say W H A T T T T?? Julia Roberts stars in a show created and (with at least the first episode) directed by Sam Esmail?? Sign me right on up, why don’t you??? Oh wait, I’m already signed up. Built in benefits of Amazon, bless.

Cast: Julia Roberts, Stephan James, Bobby Cannavale, Shea Whigham, Alex Karpovsky
