Legends of Tomorrow 2x12 "Camelot/3000" starts off in...Detroit. The year is 3000 and Rip Hunter (Arthur Darvill) enters a room where Charles McNider AKA Dr. Mid-Nite (Kwesi Ameyaw) is working on a computer. It seems that the former JSA member is hiding a fragment of the Spear of Destiny inside in his body and Rip kills the man the retrieve the fragment.

The Legends travel to year 3000 and find Charles’ body with Rip’s name written in blood. Stein (Victor Garber) is also in awe of the possibility of future technology, which will come in handy later. The team finds another location for a Spear fragment in medieval England. Ray (Brandon Routh) is way too excited for the opportunity to dress like a knight, but that didn’t stop Nate (Nick Zano) from being pessimistic about it. Oh and before the team makes their way to England, Mick confronts Stein who stole a piece of technology from the year 3000. Mick is like a proud parent, but Stein states that he is only “borrowing” the piece.

The team, minus Mick and Stein, are traveling the medieval forest but are quickly surrounded by knights. Ray recognizes the crest on their shields to be that of King Arthur, so he takes it upon himself to do his best medieval accent in order to ask for safe passage and an audience with Arthur.  One of the knights reveals herself to be Guinevere, wife of King Arthur. She takes the group to Camelot, where the Legends are greeted by King Arthur (Nils Hognestad) and the Round Table.

Arthur talks about how an evil has plagued his lands. Several of his knights have been kidnapped and he doesn’t quite trust the Legends yet. He calls upon Merlin to test their true motives, but the legendary wizard turns out to be no other than Courtney Whitmore AKA Stargirl. Amaya (Maisie Richardson-Sellers) and Sara (Caity Lotz) confront Stargirl on the Waverider and she tells them the story of how she found her way in medieval England. Turns out that the JSA were on a mission to recover the Spear of Destiny and keep it from enemy hands. Rip Hunter showed up to help the JSA and they broke the Spear into four separate to make sure no one used the Spear. Rip took one piece and the three other pieces were spread over time with different JSA members, but Stargirl doesn’t want to give up her piece of the Spear.

At a dinner party, Sara is talking to Guinevere and admiring the Queen’s ability to sneak up on the former assassin. Elsewhere, Arthur is in a swordfight with a black knight. The knight gets the upper hand and knocks Arthur down. The black knight is none other than Damien Darhk (Neal McDonough) and he is accompanied by Rip who capture Arthur and use mind controlling technology to enslave the King. Darhk, Rip, and Arthur make their way to Camelot and interrupt the dinner party. The villains take Stargirl by knifepoint and threaten to kill her unless she gives them the fragment. A battle starts but is quickly shut down when Arthur, under Rip’s control, takes a knife to his throat and threatens to kill the King. The Legends have until tomorrow to give the Legion the fragment or Darhk will return with a mind-control army and destroy Camelot.

The Legends find a mind-control device in one of the dead knights and Stein determines that the device is similar to the technology he stole in the year 3000. Stein believes he can use the stolen technology to take control of the mind-control devices. He uses Mick (Dominic Purcell) as a test subject but Stein can’t control the hothead’s mind. Meanwhile, Guinevere rallies the Knights of the Round Table and Ray takes it upon himself to join the knights to battle the Legion and their mind-controlled army.

At the same time, Amaya and Sara find the piece of the Spear in the Exaclibur but the sword is stuck in the infamous rock. Amaya uses the strength of a Gorilla and pulls the sword out. Stargirl shows up and argues with Amaya over protecting the piece of the Spear, but Stargirl’s true motive is to protect Camelot because she has fallen in love with Arthur. They eventually make peace and Stargirl entrust Amaya with the piece.

The day of the upcoming battle, Ray has combined his Atom suit with the knight armor and creates a fancy 21st century super-sword. Nate is trying to talk Ray out of going to battle because the historian saw Ray’s funeral in the history manuscript and believes if he goes to battle, the eager hero will parish. Meanwhile, the team is about to leave the medieval era but without Ray, they can’t leave. Jax (Franz Drameh) takes Stein and Mick to the lab to figure out how to make the mind-control device work and it ends up being Mick who takes control of Stein’s mind. Jax and Stein determine that they can overload the technology if Mick thinks of a traumatic memory that they can broadcast to all of the devices. Luckily for them, Mick is filled with traumatic memories. As Mick would say, “poor babies!”.

Dawn has arrived and the battle has started. The Legends join Ray, Stargirl, Guinevere, and the rest of the knights to defeat the Legion and their army. The mind-control devices are overloaded and Arthur regains conscious. He takes down Rip and Sara captures the former captain. Elsewhere, Darhk has fled but Ray chases after him. The two battle in the snow and Ray gets the upper hand before Darhk pulls out a futuristic gun and knocks out our hero. Luckily the genius-idiot survives the shot to live another day.

The episode ends with Amaya saying her goodbyes to Stargirl, Mick and Stein have some funny banter, and Sara gets a kiss from Queen Guinevere. Oh did I forget to meantion there were some sparks earlier on between the assassin and the Queen. Oops. Finally, Jax confronts Rip, who is in a jail cell on the Waverider. After he leaves, Rip calls out for Gideon (Amy Pemberton), who answers back to Rip by calling him Captain. It seems that Rip still might have control over the AI but we won’t know for sure until next episode.

Quick Notes/Remarks

-- Amaya and Nate seem to have a little lover’s quarrel in the beginning of the episode but don’t really touch upon it later on, wonder if this animosity is going to be dragged out for several episodes.

-- Nate wasn’t the only one Amaya had animosity towards this week. She also went off on Sara for letting Rip go free back in 1776.

-- It’s great to see Brandon Routh in a knight’s costume. It’s even better to see him turn a medieval sword into a saber of light…trademark issues.

-- This season on Legends, the writers have been pairing up certain characters. Sara and Jax. Amaya and Nate. But perhaps a personal favorite pairing is Stein and Mick. The two have such different characteristics but their chemistry is hysterical.

-- Guess Sir Lancelot in the medieval tales is really just Sara Lance…a lot. This show is never shy about putting their own spin on history.

Rating: Legends of Tomorrow 2x12 “Camelot/3000”: Great!

Although the stakes weren’t too high this week, the Legends took us to two different time periods, we got to see Ray make a lightsaber, and Mick took control of Stein’s mind. The episode also left us on a cliffhanger and we don’t really know what Rip is up to next.

Until next time heroes!
